St. David's Episcopal School - Head of School Annoucement

We are delighted to announce Anne Ivy as the next Head of St. David’s Episcopal School. The Board of Trustees unanimously voted on Tuesday, March 15 to affirm the Search Committee’s recommendation of Anne as our head-elect.

Anne is a seasoned educator with nearly 20 years of experience in the classroom. She currently teaches at San Antonio Academy, where she recently revamped the Kindergarten program and curriculum. Anne knows the world of young learners and the key aspects of an excellent early childhood program. Anne will be a strong leader for the St. David’s faculty. Her passion is for early education and for supporting and developing teachers in the critical work they do each day.

Anne has extensive experience communicating with parents and has successfully developed lasting relationships with students and their families. Anne is a lifelong Episcopalian and former St. David’s parent - she has intimate knowledge of how special the St. David’s community is and the strong foundation it lays for our students. We expect she will honor the rich history of our school and its loving atmosphere while also bringing fresh ideas, with an eye toward curriculum.

Anne, a graduate of Alamo Heights High School, is deeply ingrained in our local area. With her relationships, deep ties to and active involvement within Alamo Heights, and her long tenure as a local educator, she is well positioned to become a sound leader of St. David’s and promote it as the premier preschool in our area.

The Search Committee was privileged to interview a diverse and talented pool of candidates and to welcome two outstanding finalists to campus for interviews and meetings with various community constituents, including teachers, staff and the Board. The committee was impressed by Anne’s passion, leadership, poise and knowledge of early childhood education. She is highly professional, confident, composed and steady, all attributes that will serve her well as she transitions from the classroom into administration.

Anne was selected following a comprehensive search led by The Education Group, an independent school consultant. The six-member search committee was composed of current and past Board members, as well as current St. David’s parents. Each of them deserves our deepest thanks for their diligent work to ensure the successful completion of the search for our next head of school. We are grateful to them for their effort and dedication, as well as for the support and trust of the faculty, staff and community throughout the process.

Now that the search has concluded, the Board will turn its focus to ensuring a smooth transition. Over the coming weeks, we will put together a team to develop a comprehensive transition plan for Ashley’s departure and Anne’s onboarding. Anne will begin in her official capacity on June 15.

Please join us in welcoming Anne, her husband Michael and two sons, Matthew and Blake, to the St. David’s family. You can find her introductory note to the St. David’s community below.

Dear St. David’s Family and Friends,

It is an extreme honor to joyfully accept the appointment of Head of School and the opportunity to lead and steward this community into the future. Continuing the rich traditions and reputation maintained by St. David’s in educating the youngest students by laying a firm foundation in the Episcopal faith and strong academics is a charge that motivates me and for which I feel abundantly blessed.

From the moment I stepped on campus as a parent in 2008, I was confident that every St. David’s student would be known, loved, and valued by dedicated and nurturing educators. I have been blessed to teach numerous former St. David’s students over the years who have proven that an emphasis on developmentally appropriate practices in education, a focus on faith formation, and exposure to enrichment opportunities are momentous in developing the whole child.

I anticipate with great pleasure the opportunity to be part of the joy and wonder that is St. David’s Episcopal School. We are here to love God, love learning, and love our neighbor!

Blessings,
Anne Ivy
