St. David’s Episcopal Church & School is seeking a Director of Music/Organist
St. David’s Episcopal Church & School is dedicated to carrying forward Christ’s transformative love through joyful worship, welcoming fellowship, and dedicated service. We are seeking a Director of Music and Organist to serve our church and school community who will build excitement around our music program. This position requires 30 hours a week. As a congregation with a strong sense of fellowship-centered ministry, we are searching for a candidate who will engage deeply with church and school community. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the Episcopal liturgical tradition and a strong background in sacred music, with organ and piano proficiency. Our organ is a three-manual Westmorland Custom built by Makin Organs. In addition to church responsibilities, the Director of Music will provide accompaniment for daily school chapel and other special school performances and events.

Key Responsibilities:
- Worship Services:
- Lead and coordinate music for all Sunday and weekday worship services.
- Play the organ and/or piano for services, and provide musical leadership for congregational singing, choir, and solo performances.
- Collaborate with the clergy to select appropriate hymns, anthems, and other musical elements that align with the liturgical calendar and worship themes.
- Oversee the preparation and execution of special liturgies such as Christmas Eve, Easter, and other major church festivals.
- Choir Leadership:
- Direct the parish choir, including rehearsing, scheduling, and leading the group in choral anthems and hymns.
- Provide musical direction for seasonal performances (e.g., Christmas and Easter services) and occasional special music programs.
- Recruit, train, and nurture choir members of all ages, fostering a welcoming environment.
- Daily Chapel for Preschool:
- Provide musical accompaniment for daily chapel services for St. David’s school.
- Foster an environment where young children experience the joy of music as part of their spiritual development.
- Instrumental Maintenance:
- Oversee the maintenance and care of the church's organ, piano, and other musical instruments, working closely with contractors as needed for tuning and repairs.

- Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Rector and other church staff to plan and coordinate the worship calendar.
- Collaborate with guest musicians, soloists, and ensembles for special services and events.
- Build relationships with parishioners to encourage community through the St. David’s music program.

- Administrative Responsibilities:
- Maintain a budget for the music program and manage any related administrative duties, including music planning and communications.
- Create worship bulletins for all church services.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Music, Sacred Music, Organ Performance, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Experience as an organist and music director, preferably in an Episcopal or similar liturgical context.
- Proficiency in organ and piano, with a strong ability to lead congregational singing and direct choral groups.
- Familiarity with the Episcopal liturgy and an understanding of the role of music in worship.
- Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and volunteers.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with preschool music education is a plus, though not required.
- A strong commitment to fostering spiritual growth through music.

- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.
